Ed Ackerson to release solo disc Nov. 20

Just in from P.D. Larson:

After 25 years of making great records for himself (Polara, 27 Various, The Dig) and others (Golden Smog, Jayhawks + a zillion others), Ed Ackerson has decided the time is right for his first solo album. And what an incredible album it is! Put aside everything you'd expect when you think about "Ed solo" and be prepared to be amazed. CD release date is Nov. 20.

Also, a big "Sussed-tacular" concert is now confirmed for Nov. 23 at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. This will be the official CD release party for Ed's album and will also feature a formidable lineup including The Melismatics, The Mood Swings, Janey & Marc (a sensational new "folk duo" featuring Janey Winterbauer & Marc Perlman) and more cool guests.

I'm thinking I can make that show. I'm going to try and have Eric and Ed in for a HowWasTheShow artist series podcast in the "howwastheshow studios." I love how they are working together. It kind of unites two different periods of Minnesota Music for me. Back in the mid 90s when I lived right next door to Ed's Flowers Studios in Uptown (I remember waking up one morning and looking out my bedroom window the day the console went in through the garage door) the members of the Alarmists were what, about 15 years old? So it's really cool to see.

Ed and Eric (and Marc and Tim as well, I believe) will play some songs in the studio.

And speaking of Ed and Eric, we recorded the November HWTS Artists series podcast with them last night at Flowers Studios and it went off really well. Assembling tonight for posting tomorrow 'round midnight. There are some cool surprises in store.

the album is really good!

After about my fifth listen, I think it just cracked into my Top 10 MN albums of the year. So many great songs.
