Whoa, is wrestling as much fun to photograph as it looks like it might be? I've shot plenty of roller derby and it really gets the adrenaline flowing.

Hey David,
It's MMA (mixed martial arts), though it does incorporate wrestling. Hair splitting aside, yeah, it would be a dream job if I could make a full-time living at it. It's definately one of the hardest forms of sports photography to shoot. You never know where the action is going to be, the fights are usually much shorter than boxing bouts, most of the events require shooting through a cage, and it's ambient (available) lighting only- no flash allowed. On the business side of things, most photographers won't make a dime at it- most promoters won't pay for photography, and most fighters either can't afford it or are uninterested. It's definately a mixed bag. |
