I'm guessing the people who entered the contest (questions on the website) were already notified if they won. (I.e. it's already Saturday, and when people registered, many likely left "daytime" phone numbers.)
I know Spin.com is doing photo/story coverage, and there may even be video. I suppose it's no consolation if you actually wanted to go to this, but at least it's not so exclusive that there won't be some media coverage back out that is informative. Ross mentioned it in the PiPress podcast, but I can't recall if he was planning on covering it.

Yeah, I'm going, and planning to put something on my blog about it. (I'm pretty sure the Strib will have someone there as well.)
This is actually one of those cases where I would love to offer my plus-one to someone, but I don't actually have a plus one this time. (I've got one ticket and one ticket only...)

The Westerberg show last night was pretty freakin' awesome. I have a few of my shots posted here:

My photos won't be up for a while. I don't know how weird Spin is about that.... but they're done! haha...
Will post a link to Jon's/my article as soon as it posts. It was a great show - Paul was pretty laid back and as you can see from Jon's pics, bucked the smoking ban. I'm sure I wasn't the only person who sat there and watched him fiddle with the cigarette in his hand for a few minutes, wondering if he'd actually light it onstage or not. It was fancy inside 1st Ave with lots of light-up columns and various screens. The main floor was full of folding chairs and they had the sides blocked off so they could record it for the Hall of Fame archives. I don't know if they'll actually show any of it anywhere or not. I can't recall (Coot? Jon?). Westerberg played a new song that was really great - about his son's friend whose parents were going to tell him they were getting divorced after a big basketball game. Paul went home and wrote a song from the kid's point of view - the lyrics revolved around "my family is stupid," which I thought was pretty fitting and great. He also played Dyslexic Heart (swoon), Skyway, and a mix of old/new 'Mats and solo stuff. What happened was that Paul would play one song (mixed up acoustic/electric depending on the song) and then answer questions about the making of an album, his anxiety, or whatever... and then play another one. He had lyric sheets in plastic protectors that he'd leaf through before playing to make sure he'd get the words right. One of my favorite parts was when they played Paul's favorite songs that inspired him. It included "ABC" by the Jackson 5, "Beast of Burden" by the Stones, "Hello, Goodbye" by The Beatles, a blues song I didn't know... and I can't remember the 5th.... shoot. It was pretty cool to see Paul mimic the music being played via air guitar or air drums... hee hee! He did come out for one encore after the interview too - that's when he played "Skyway." I saw a few people I knew (Dave Campbell, Jim & Terry Walsh, Heidi from DEMO, and of course Coot, Dan Corrigan, Tony Nelson, etc). It was an awesome night and really cool to hear it from Westerberg himself what it was like to be in the 'Mats and going solo. Big piece of history right there. |

I was looking at Bob's photos (nice by the way) and noticed that Westerberg is playing an odd guitar. It looks like a 12-string Stratocaster, which I didn't know existed. Can any gearheads tell me what kind of guitar that is?
