Sun Country featuring music by Minnesota artists

Starting today, the airline is featuring Minnesota artists on one of its music channels and in its in-flight magazine.

"As a Minnesota-based company, it is important that we utilize Minnesota products at every opportunity," said Wendy Williams Blackshaw, Sun Country's Vice President of Marketing. "Featuring Minnesota musicians is an innovative way in which we can show our support for the local community."

Sun Country Airlines will begin featuring Minnesota-based artists and musicians for their In-flight music offerings, beginning March 10, 2008. These eight locally/nationally recognized bands, Tim Mahoney, Quietdrive, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Scarlet Haze, Corey Stevens, Chris Hawkey, Peter Mayer, and The Splatter Sisters were selected to release their latest music on Sun Country! The airline will kick off the In-flight entertainment program with live concerts by Tim Mahoney and Quietdrive on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Humphrey Terminal.

It would be nice to know if this is the final lineup, or if they'll continue to select and feature other musicians as well. It's a cool idea, in any case.

I'll grant that list has diversity, but it's still pretty weird. Maybe there's more? No offense meant to Scarlet Haze or the SPCO intended.

Yes, it's quite the eclectic lineup. Randy has contacted the Wendy quoted in the article (too many Wendys) to ask about whether they're interested in additional artists. We'll see if/when he gets a response.
