I am going out on a limb judging by the fact that I have only heard the record a single time and in concert, but I am willing to bet that the new Janelle Monae album, Archandroid, is going to be pretty great. Total space rock opera, psychedellic hip hop shit.
I know Kyle mentioned the Of Montreal influence (which Monae credits on the album) and I definitely see and hear it both in the music and the live show. I wonder if people will start name dropping Bowie as well? I bet Pitchfork throws out some Sun Ra references, just to out-nerd everyone else |

After 3 or 4 days, both LCD and BSS are proving to be really great. Other albums that are currently taking up my free time that are awesome include:
Woods- At Echo Lake (somehow better than Songs of Shame) Holy Fuck- Latin (again...somehow better than their last record...which was self titled if I remember correctly) Poison Control Center- Sad Sour Future (just a really great band that I am always happy to hear new stuff from)

not even 1/2 way through the new Black Keys album 'Brothers' and I can safely put this in my favorites of the year category
edit: just finished... dayum. this is gonna impress fans and non-fans alike. they've taken it to another level with this album. The National - High Violet, if you can hold off the really shitty quality leaked version from this morning, they're streaming it in high quality on the NY Times on Friday. |
