7/16/2008 Summer = Alarmists, Dancing, & Movies in the Park
So it's summer. I can't help but try and go outside as much as possible this time of year. As we all realize here in Minnesota, summer goes by before we even get to exhale that cold winter air fully from our lungs - or so it seems. However, we Twin Citizens are lucky, lucky, people. There's
Peavey Plaza's Alive After Five. There's the
Stevens Square Park Cinema & Civics Series, the
Walker Art Center's Music & Movie Series,
MMAA Patio Nights,
Music in Mears Park, and more things than I have time to list to do and see.
This week
The Alarmists, one of my favorite local bands, kicked off The
Walker Art Center's Music & Movies series in
Loring Park. It was packed with people from all walks of life. Kids playing frisbee, dogs, people riding bikes, wine drinkers, dancers, lovers, and those who just wanted a bit of fresh air.
89.3 The Current is sponsoring the series this year, and so DJ
Barb Abney was on hand to spin some records after the Alarmists set, while the crowd waited for the large movie screen to get set up. It's a great feeling to be outside on a blanket, surrounded by like-minded people, just watchin' some music and enjoying the sun.
So get out there and support the local arts scene! Go see the
Sculpture Garden, go to an outdoor show, a park, a lake... dance! Remember, warmth is fleeting and you've only got a few more months. Stock up memories now.
You can find the full set from the Alarmists Music & Movies show
here.
