11/19/2008 The Rosebuds at the Turf Club

While the Hold Steady and Drive-by Truckers were burning down the house at First Avenue in Minneapolis, across the river in St. Paul a smaller crowd had gathered at the Turf Club for an intimate and by all accounts wonderful show by Carolina’s The Rosebuds and Megafaun.

Sara Montour captured this photo of Ivan Howard from The Rosebuds in mid note. (See more photos and a full show review by Chase Turner over at our friends More Cowbell here.)

Montour reports it was an incredible show and reminded her in its informality of a Mad Ripple Hootenanny “or just a bunch of friends hanging out in a living room singing songs.”

Speaking of the connection between Bon Iver (Justin Vernon was in the front row for most of the evening) and Rosebuds, Montour said many of the Bon Iver fans had no idea that there was a connection between Justin Vernon and Sunday evening’s bands.

More Cowbell also features several videos of the show shot by Kyle Matteson that give you an idea of the fun. “You can totally hear me laughing in all of them,” Montour said. “That's exactly how I felt all night.”
