5/20/2007 John Eller at First Avenue for Rock for Pussy IV
David Bowie fans and cat shelter enthusiasts were out in full force Saturday night for the fourth annual
Rock for Pussy show at
First Avenue, a benefit for the Humane Society organized by
Mary Lucia of
89.3 The Current and
John Eller (pictured, left, with
Randy Casey). Eller and an all-star cast of local music luminaries -- including Casey,
John Munson,
Steve Price,
Tommy Alsides,
Janey Winterbauer,
Leslie Ball, and
Jeaneen Gauthier -- acted as house band while a host of local artists took turns playing the role of front man.
Highlights included an out-of-this-world version of "Ziggy Stardust" done by Minneapolis's favorite rock star,
Chris Perricelli of
Little Man; a spot-on "Major Tom" led by a plaid jacket-clad
Randy Casey; a surprisingly confident
Tim O'Reagan singing "Rebel Rebel"; and the night's grand finale, a slicked-back, glittery
Jim Walsh working the crowd over with "Heroes."
