9/23/2007 Tapes 'N Tapes at the Mercedes Gorden Benefit
It was a "pretty good crowd for a Sunday," as they say. At the
Fine Line Music Café in Minneapolis Sunday night, bands
Coach Said Not To, The Deaths, So It Goes, The Ocean Blue, The Melismatics and headliners
Tapes 'n Tapes (in a rare appearance this fall) took the stage to raise awareness and money for 35W Bridge victims, specifically
Mercedes Gordon, who was injured August 1st when her car fell 60 feet after the 35W Bridge collapsed beneath her. Hosted by
Mark Wheat and
Brian Oake,
DJ Jake Rudh -- Mercedes Gordon's fiancé -- also shared hosting duties and brought several of the heroes of 8/1/07 onto the stage to be honored. Those heroes included a first responding firefighter, two of the good Samaritans who were the first to reach Mercedes, and the doctors who helped to save her legs. It was a moving tribute. Mercedes is a hero herself now, and spent much of the evening in the front row of the concert enjoying the show while receiving well wishes and hugs while seated in her wheelchair.
But Mercedes has a long road of recovery ahead of her. She hopes to walk down the aisle when she marries Jake Rudh in just over a year. You can find out more, send well wishes and make a donation to help support others like her at:
