Dozens of people tuned into the first broadcast on Thursday, January 1st and joined in the live chat.
HowWasTheShow will also be offering audio re-podcasts of each hoot, and this is the first in that series. Below is an MP3 stream player and download link for the first Hoot of 2009, recorded at The Beat Coffeehouse in Uptown Minneapolis.
For a visual recap, see a slideshow of Hootenanny photos by Jenn Barnett here set to "Mighty Mighty River" by Jason Shannon.
It was standing room only shortly after the first hoot of the 2009 season got underway. The comfortable music room at The Beat which had been a little cool when we arrived was soon so warm from all the bodies that they had to turn the heat down. Though all the performers were amazing, Venus's performances were particularly dynamic and intense. She had viewers on the webcast logged in from as far away as Nebraska, one actually using the moniker waitingforvenus. Jason Shannon, who is releasing a new CD at the Varsity Theateron Friday, January 9th, brought two members of his band along, violin and trumpet, which really rounded out his sound, which hootmaster Jim Walsh repeatedly dubbed "sexy."
This recording was made entirely from a soundboard feed with just two condenser mics, one on each side of the stage and unfortunately the folks in the middle are a little quieter because of that. For future hoot recordings we will have a microphone center stage as well.
About 44 minutes into this recording where Walsh chastises someone for laughing when he greets the people who might be listening across the country and around the world, the funny thing is the person who laughed was me.
Note:This the complete audio of the hoot and runs 2 hours and 25 minutes.
