Rift Magazine 36 Hour Songwriting Contest slideshow and audio at The Beat Coffeehouse on 4/11/09

By: David de Young

Slideshow by Jenn Barnett and audio by HowWasTheShow of the Rift Magazine 36 Hour Songwriting Contest #7 at The Beat Coffeehouse, Saturday April 11th.  (For videos from this show, visit expanded coverage on the HowWasTheShow blog.)

16 contestants had 36 hours to write a song based loosely around the topic "the meaning of life." The results varied from a ballad telling the story of the songwriting process itself (by David de Young, author of this review, and also a contestant this year), to Jen Markey's tale of a weekend conference that told her "life is empty, life is meaningless", to the winning song, the ethereal "Happy Human" by Andrew Lynch.

This slideshow by Jenn Barnett set to the winning song, "Happy Human" by Andrew Lynch, as performed for the first time ever at the show.
