So Pepsi and Coke are both colas, but during a blind taste test, they’re fairly easy to distinguish. The Bravery and The Killers, on the other hand, not so easy. The only differences between The Bravery’s live show and The Killers in concert were ticket price and the lack of air conditioning—audibly, I wouldn’t have known the difference.

The Bravery played Monday night at a steamy Varsity Theater. Stale air and expensive drinks made the crowd a bit lazy and a majority of the people could only stand to dance for a maximum of two and a half minutes before stopping to wipe the sweat from their brows. The band members themselves looked like they had just taken a swim.

The New York indie-rockers played a mix of songs from their old album with singles from their newest release, The Sun and The Moon. The Bravery played flawlessly, giving the audience a healthy dose of the rock and washing it down with a bit of electronic filling.

“Something for Nothing” and “Out of Line” were crowd favorites, inspiring dancing nobody’s mother would be proud of.

On stage The Bravery seemed to have walked straight out of a punk edition of GQ, their instruments serving as cool accessories. The light set-up was pretty intense and gave the small stage a Target Center feel, minus the fireworks during the encore.

Regardless of the temperature, The Bravery managed to give 100 percent, never failing to look enthusiastic and completely engaged in their music. Bassist Mike Hindert jumped into the audience at one point and guitarist Michael Zakarin continually paced the stage and snuggled up to the crowd. Frontman Sam Endicott told a few stories, explaining his inspiration for the song “Bad Son”: a crazy, cheating ex-gf who screwed him over multiple times. The best part of the show wasn’t necessarily the musical content, but the connection the band insisted on creating with the dripping audience.
