I grew up listening to jazz music. Both my brothers are jazz musicians. Instead of sports, politics, culture, or religion, my family understands each other through jazz music. I think what pushed me to engage in music journalism was my need to contribute to the music community in a way that honors my brothers' commitment to music.

Although jazz was my family's music of choice, I have since expanded my musical pallet to include any and all meaningful, authentic music I become exposed to. My current musical styles of choice include anything from classical Hindustani music to Dancehall, or from Malian music to Alt Country.

I'm a relative newcomer to Minneapolis, as I've lived here for about four months now. I received my degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing last May from St. John's University. My day job is a technical writer at an Arbitration firm, which surprisingly helps me to see new ways in which to improve my creative/journalistic writing.
