Prince tributes in downtown Minneapolis

The Prince love-in started with a showing of Purple Rain at Target Field. People representing all generations gathered to honor our Minnesota treasure, who passed away suddenly on Thursday at age 57. The tribute continued at First Avenue where the music was all Prince and appropriately peppered with Earth, Wind and Fire, James Brown, The Time, Sly and the Family Stone, Sheila E, Chaka Kahn and an honorary David Bowie “Let’s Dance.” The electricity surged when the DJ stopped the music periodically as the crowd belted out every word to our favorite Prince songs, smoking them all with intellect and savior-faire.
